Meesh Powell is no stranger to playing big games, having most recently competed in the College Football Playoff Championship. The Washington transfer met with reporters to discuss his progress:
On camp: I think we're doing really well. We're just gelling more and more every single day. We’re getting all the small details ironed out, which I think is the most important part in the back end, being very detail-oriented. Overall, we're having fun flying around and playing confident. That's probably the most important thing when you're a defensive player. You’ve got to play confident, get a little trash talk in there, too, and make a play. I feel very confident.
On the Florida game: It's a big-time game. The teams have got to be fully dialed in. Honestly, our mindset over here, we treat every game like it's a big game. Regardless if it was the FCS team, we're treating it like a rivalry game and going into it with the mindset of dominating. The mindset and the operation week in and week out of how we prepare for teams doesn't change whether we're in the national championship or it's our first game against FCS teams. They’re good as well. It's going to be a good test for us. We’re up for it. We're ready. We're more than ready.
On Jaden Harris: First of all, that's my brother. He’s back there with me and he's been with me since the start of fall camp. He's been playing exceptional., One thing that I’m very impressed by him is just his ability to adjust to different formation playing that strong safety. There's so many calls that you have to make in that strong safety position. He's handled that very well.
He’s fast, he covers. And the biggest thing with him is he hits. He's physical. When some people think of strong safeties, they think of maybe a super huge guy. He's big, but he's not 6'4", 230. But you would think he’s 6'4", 230, the way he comes down and hits. He's just so intelligent and confident and smart. He's been getting better and better every single day. It’s great playing alongside him. He's my guy.
