Last week, Miami extended an offer to Martin Emerson Jr., a 6’2’’ 185-pound defensive back from Pine Forest in the 2019 class.
“It felt good. This was my first big offer from a Florida team. I always wanted to play for a Florida team coming up, so it felt good.”
Miami offered Emerson despite the fact that he is committed to Mississippi State.
“I am committed right now, but obviously my recruiting process is still open.”
Emerson was offered as a safety, so Coach Banda is the man leading his recruitment.
“(He’s) complimenting my game. Talking about how I can come in and play early. Setting up an official soon. Not even just setting up an official, just coming down for a game.”
Emerson is a big fan of how Miami’s safeties play, but also of the history of the safety position at Miami.
“(They’re) aggressive, big time play makers. They have GOAT’s coming from that school. Ed Reed, Sean Taylor… I just feel like if I were to make that decision they would be good for me at safety.”
Coach Banda will spend the next few months trying to flip Emerson, and this is what it will take for that to actually happen.
“Really just me getting to know everybody,” Emerson said on what it will take to flip him. “Being on campus.”
Emerson will probably not make it down for the FSU game since it is the same weekend as his homecoming, but he does plan on coming down this week for the North Carolina game. That will be the first time Emerson has come to Miami for a visit. Emerson has already taken his official visit to Mississippi State and plans to take officials to Miami and Louisville later in the process.
