The one telling thing that I can recall when Mario came on board, was how he envisioned the U culture, the player caliber and work ethic he wanted instilled. Fast forward to today, his terminology is more about actually executing on that vision. The trajectory on that vision as far as the player types are concerned, is on the way up. The caliber as well. You can hear the culture in every player interview. Definite progress, would love to witness years 4, 5 and on, on this trajectory.
It's definitely time to start bearing fruit from a culture shift from a coaching change. I think this is the season we turn up, I've got a lot of cautious optimism.

Like everyone else, this had me surprised to hear yet beyond thrilled:

"You've got to be able to throw to win. Everybody wants to be 50-50. I'd like to be scoring 50 points a game, in whatever way we can get that done. Coach Dawson has done an unbelievable job. . . formulating a plan that really highlights and makes sure that we get the ball in the hands of the guys that can make plays happen, to make us more explosive."

Then, on last year, he said we were more efficient yet not explosive enough, and acknowledged that "When you have a quarterback like this and an offensive line like this and you have a running back and guys that we feel are high-level guys, you’ve got to make sure it gets spread around. But you aim to be as explosive as you can possibly be."

One of my criticisms of Mario is his reluctance to change to adapt to a sport that is very different than what it was 10-20 years ago. But when I see stuff like this, I'm optimistic that Mario is in fact changing, or willing to do so. That bodes well for us and the program.
I’ve said this over and over but if you ask Mario what a perfect game looks like he will say 4 possessions per quarter two 6 minute drives for the offense resulting in TDs and two 3 and outs/TO on D. 14-0 x 4 = 56-0. This does not necessarily require you to throw it all over the yard. You could do this avging 8 ypc and just cramming it down people’s throats.

But this is the assumption that I am discussing. If you read the quote (and he’s being honest), what we assume of Mario may not be accurate now.

Not to be adversarial toward you or disparaging toward Mario, I believe in what he's building.

Mario says he wants to hang 50 and he is willing to do whatever it takes to get there. That may happen but let's not lie to ourselves, if we avg 6 ypc gonna be alot of 8 minute drives. I'd like to believe Mario envisions success as 2019 LSU but he wants to be Bama and UGA built, so QB play doesn't have to make or break you.

35-14 in every game with 400 yds of offense 50/50 and 250yds given up that's his version of sustainable success. I believe Mario wants to have a lot of opportunities to take shots on second and 4 or 5. He feels strongly Cam can capitalize on the shots but also be poised enough to take 4 yards when that is what the defense gives him. Couple explosive plays a game off play action, couple neat wrinkles out of condensed sets to our oversized and athletic TEs/gadget players, and good old ground and pound with big backs. That's exactly what I think he is building but who knows how it is going to play out.
