Toughest matchup for us will be our dbs vs gates WRs. If our Dline is what I think it is, that should neutralize things on the backend. I’m not saying our corners stink. They’re solid and probably match up well against most of the teams on our schedule. But the WRs are the gators strength. Mertz is solid as well. But if that oline is what they say it is and our dline is what we say it is… could be an azzzzz whooopin. I will not let green tree hype ruin me again. Need to see it 3:30-8pm in da **** hole swamp

I do forget the exact quote but when Mario got here wasnt he calling TVD an NFL guy and one of the best QBs in the nation? It was pretty high praise.

When will we EVER just stop crying like little ******* over that quote? It's nothing personal, I'm just asking.

Mario was accurate. When he arrived, he thought TVD was one of the best returning sophomore QBs and could be an NFL guy.

Then Mario saw him in practices and games and adversity. DID YOU EVER HEAR MARIO PRAISE TVD LIKE THAT AGAIN?

Good lord, 20 years from now, CIS posters are gonna keep 'membering that one time that Mario praised TVD...

Because of our past hurt we're probably greatly underestimating how devastating Bain, Baron, Mesidor and Alston will be.

I think he did praise TVD, but I don’t recall it being like he is praising Cam.
Mario has upgraded every single position on the team significantly from when he arrived, so I just think enthusiasm is natural in any field when a person sees their hard work coming together to create the product they were expecting.

I”m not drinking the Kool Aid and immediately putting us in the top 5 because that requires good coaching as well. Butch Davis was not a good game day coach, but he recruited incredibly, and he had a very good staff littered for future college and NFL head coaches. So, IMO, we still need to see if we have the coaching piece to match the player talent piece. If so, the rest of college football is in trouble.
Its probably higher praise for cam, but he praised tvd like **** every camp lol

This is just faulty memory.

Mario praised TVD most heavily upon his arrival at UM. Between the 2022 season and the bull**** off-season (where TVD flirted with going elsewhere), I **** well know that Mario's praise for TVD wsa not as effusive in 2023. It just wasn't.

"I'd like to be scoring 50 points a game, in whatever way we can get that done." That doesn't sound like caveman ball........................
I told ALL of you guys that Mario took notice of what was said, made requests in regards to personnel recruitment and he received what he needed.

The man isn’t dumb and AGAIN if you guys didn’t notice the difference between the offense pre TVD mental meltdown vs after YOU’RE blind.

We will score this year in buckets 🪣

Is it possible that Mario sounds more enthusiastic because he finally has a team that deserves enthusiasm? Maybe he saw all of TVD’s limitations when he played against a zone defense in practice? Maybe he saw the lack of depth and realized a few injuries could derail the season.

Maybe, just maybe, it has taken Mario 3 full seasons to shape and build a team as he wants it, and he finally has it. And maybe he knows with 1-2 more recruiting classes, UM will have depth of talent not seen since the early 2000’s.
Pate said on his show last night that the staffs in previous years with Mario were saying secretly that 2024 was always the year. He said they didn’t mean it as an excuse, that was just the year they really thought they can realistically compete.

It’s a new year, and new QB, and koolaid is tasting great when we are all thirsty for football

But you’re being too generous with Mario, particularly from the offensive point of view

Like everyone else, this had me surprised to hear yet beyond thrilled:

"You've got to be able to throw to win. Everybody wants to be 50-50. I'd like to be scoring 50 points a game, in whatever way we can get that done. Coach Dawson has done an unbelievable job. . . formulating a plan that really highlights and makes sure that we get the ball in the hands of the guys that can make plays happen, to make us more explosive."

Then, on last year, he said we were more efficient yet not explosive enough, and acknowledged that "When you have a quarterback like this and an offensive line like this and you have a running back and guys that we feel are high-level guys, you’ve got to make sure it gets spread around. But you aim to be as explosive as you can possibly be."

One of my criticisms of Mario is his reluctance to change to adapt to a sport that is very different than what it was 10-20 years ago. But when I see stuff like this, I'm optimistic that Mario is in fact changing, or willing to do so. That bodes well for us and the program.

It takes a lot of enthusiasm to take a knee. I see the light now. Gotta be willing to scrub the grass stain out of your Dockers full go in the AM

The one telling thing that I can recall when Mario came on board, was how he envisioned the U culture, the player caliber and work ethic he wanted instilled. Fast forward to today, his terminology is more about actually executing on that vision. The trajectory on that vision as far as the player types are concerned, is on the way up. The caliber as well. You can hear the culture in every player interview. Definite progress, would love to witness years 4, 5 and on, on this trajectory.

“On the secondary: In terms of talent, I think we have more talent than has been here in recent years. That's progress. That's part of the reason that we're here. We’ve got to keep doing that more and more and more at every level”

After losing Kam and JW I didn’t expect this to be the sentiment. I’ll need to see it to believe it.
