Luke Nickel looks the part in 37-28 win over American Heritage

Miami commit Luke Nickel had a big-time performance on the road in a 37-28 victory against the American Heritage Patriots.

Nickel threw for 234 yards and two touchdowns for his Milton (Ga.) squad, who beat nationally ranked Buford (Ga.) the previous week by the score of 13-10.

Nickel faced off against a fellow Miami commit, WR Malachi Toney, who is slated to join the team in 2026. Toney scored two touchdowns for the Patriots, but it was not enough to beat Nickel and Milton’s powerful offense.

Really impressed. He's not getting the hype because he's not a physical freak but you can't teach his pocket presence and calm he is in the pocket. Pinpoint accurate and for all the talk about arm strength, he looked off his initial read, scrambled to his left and fired it 55 yards in the run. Looks like a good future QB to me

We’re getting a really good deal here. If he was 6’4” there’d be a ton of hype. He doesn’t have any off the charts characteristics but he seems to do everything well. Accurate throws with enough zip to squeeze it between defenders. Pretty good athlete who can scramble and throw on the run. I’m thinking a slightly less athletic Bo Nix. Maybe a better passer than Nix was early in his career

Watching this kid in action yesterday was impressive. Feels like the perfect QB for Dawson offense. An efficient distributor of the ball. Read the field really well and even on the throws he missed on the majority were excellent reads. Will be a very good college QB imo

We have been bereft of even solid QB play for so long that it stirs the soul to hear this about our inbound guy.

This kid should be a high four-star already
No doubt. On the road to Fort Lauderdale against one of South Florida's always great programs, on national TV as well as many local UM fans in the stands and all he does is put up 37 points and the win. Very impressive.

I was thinking about someone everyone knows who’s skillset closely resembles his.

Disclaimer: I’m not saying he’s going to be a Heisman finalist or a first round pick. Because people take comparisons waaaaay too seriously here.
I was just kidding after bumping the Bo Nix thread the other day

I get what you mean. Someone else said Jake Browning and I liked that one too

I don’t think Nickel has as live an arm or is as dynamic with his legs as Nix, I do think he’s more of a threat with his legs than Browning. I’ll toss out Kenny Pickett. Doesn’t have an elite arm but more than good enough and just doesn’t make horrible mistakes, and keeps you honest with his legs. I don’t think Nickel is quite as fast but he’s a lot more athletic than I think people realize.

(Only talking Pitt Pickett)
