Cam "Bobby" Pruitt has been turning heads since spring, with some practice observers pegging him as a potential future pro. He spoke with CanesInSight about his NFL bloodlines, versatility and hard-hitting.

On where he got his physical nature: My dad. He was an ex-NFL player (Etric Pruitt, who played in Super Bowl XL as a safety for Seattle). He was known as a hard hitter. I always compete with him and tell him I’m better than him already.

On his weight goals: I want to hit 215 and keep my speed and coverage. But if not, I’m fine where I’m at (200).

On his ability to play inside and outside: It’s normal to me. I’m a physical guy. I like contact. It’s fun to me. So I have no problem playing inside at linebacker.

On his basketball background: I played basketball for my footwork. My dad put me in basketball. My footwork came a long way from DB to wide receiver to linebacker.

On his individual goals: Freshman All-American. Fifty or 60 tackles. And I want to be a team player where everyone comes to me with questions.

On players he models his game after: Kam Chancellor and Brian Dawkins. And when I played quarterback, Cam Newton.

On how he got the nickname Bobby: My grandpa on my mom’s side passed away. My mom said I was kind of like him, so she gave me the name. I took that real personal.

On why he chose Miami: I had to do my pros and cons. I thought about the future, and if God blesses me and I go the NFL, I won’t be able to stay at home anyways. I’ll be going to places like Seattle, so I may as well get used to it and adapt.

On his off-the-field interests: I’m real chill, laid back. Do my school work and get my body right for the next day.

Meaningless observation: you can notice the natural growth, maturity and comfort with media of the kids by reading these. The older ones give longer, more introspective answers and the young bucks just answer the question straight to the point.

Anyway, excited about Pruitt. Get Sean Spence vibes from him.

Size, ability, athletic background (safety/LB) reminds me a lot of Carl Walker. Pruitt is what we all hoped walker would be.

Reminds me of Ray Lewis at the same age. Now my expectation is not that he becomes anywhere near Ray. But it’s a fair comparison on the skillset, buzz, etc.

"On players he models his game after: Kam Chancellor and Brian Dawkins" one thing about Chancellor he mastered the new hit stick without targeting. Pete Carroll's ruby tackling program was ahead of its time in Seattle. Taking the helmet out the play.I want Pruitt to keep the big hits and avoid targeting same as Chancellor did 💪.

Interesting comparison. I’m a nut and rewatch a lot of the big games from the 2000 season (and the rest of that era). He made some HUGE hits flying down on kickoff return but don’t remember him doing much else.

Pretty much. He was a highly touted kid coming out of HS (probably high 4 star/low 5 star equivalent) who was an in the box safety kind of guy in HS. He could run and jump but was stiff and struggled to gain weight.
