2015 Lakewood Senior High (Fla.) forward Anthony Lawrence committed to UCF back in October of this year. However, after some time Lawrence decided to open his ears to other schools again to get a feel.
“I decommitted from UCF because I had nothing to compare it to. I really made the choice early. They’re still my number 1 school, I just want to re-open my recruitment.”
Lawrence is now taking calls from multiple other schools including Florida, Texas, FIU, Texas A&M, Clemson and Miami.
The 6’5 180 pound forward spoke about the Hurricanes and what he likes about them.
“I grew up being a Miami fan because of my dad. I’ve been there a lot of times and I love coach Larrañaga and coach Mike Huger.”
Part of the reason Lawrence is so familiar with the Miami program is due to the fact that his father played at Miami. While many would think that will play a big role in his recruitment, he says his father is letting him make his own decision.
“He just lets me make my decision by myself, he will help me out though.”
The Lakewood product truly admires the way coach Larrañaga runs his team and feels the freedom with his players helps.
“I like the way of his style of play, he lets all his players just play their game and they just shoot and play the game.”
Lawrence is planning a trip to see Miami in the future as well as Clemson and UCF again.
The slashing forward is currently preparing for his teams season this year as he looks to carry them.
“My expectations for my team this year is just to work hard, hopefully make it to states and hopefully win the district and then win states.”
The rebounding and scoring threat compares himself to UCLA’s Kyle Anderson and described his game style.
“I make everybody on the court better, I can push the ball up the court, I can shoot, pass and I can score.”
