Episode 39 of the CanesInSight podcast features an exclusive interview with Kyshawn George, the talented signee for the Miami Hurricanes basketball team. Hailing from Switzerland and playing professionally in France, George brings a unique skill set to the team. With limited information available about him, this interview sheds light on his game, decision to choose Miami, and his aspirations for the upcoming season

George, a Swiss national, caught the attention of Miami's coaching staff early in the season. Coach Larranaga personally reached out to George, offering him a scholarship to Miami in December 2022. This personal touch played a significant role in George's decision to choose the Hurricanes.

"Miami made me a priority right from the beginning," George said. "Coach Larranaga and the staff showed genuine interest in me, and that meant a lot. Other schools like Xavier, Pittsburgh, Illinois, and Texas also expressed interest, but the connection I felt with Miami was special."

While George may not fit the traditional mold of a highly-ranked recruit since there is very little information about him online, his visit to Miami in December solidified his decision. Despite the limited campus activity due to the timing of his visit, George felt a great connection to the university and its basketball program.

"The feeling I had on campus was fantastic," George shared. "Even though it was during the holiday season, I could sense the energy and the passion for basketball. The environment and the campus itself were impressive. I knew Miami was the right place for me."

When asked about his style of play, George acknowledged his admiration for NBA player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the way he approaches the game. George sees himself as a versatile guard who excels at creating space, catch-and-shoot situations, and making smart decisions on the court.

"I try to imitate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's style," George explained. "I'm not the most athletic player, but I rely on my length and my ability to create space. I'm more comfortable on the perimeter and enjoy being a combo guard."

George's growth spurt played a crucial role in shaping his game. Starting as a point guard and gradually transitioning to a more versatile role, he developed a deep understanding of the game. George's coordination and handling skills remained intact despite his physical growth, providing him with a solid foundation for success.

As George prepares to join the Hurricanes, he acknowledges the differences between the European and American styles of play. While the European game emphasizes structure and following set plays, the college game offers more freedom and a faster pace. George believes his skill set will allow him to adapt quickly, but he acknowledges the need for an adjustment period.

"I enjoy playing an up-tempo game, and I believe that will be beneficial at Miami," George stated. "The transition will involve getting used to the speed and the freedom of the game. European basketball is more structured, but I'm excited to experience the fast-paced nature of the NCAA."

One advantage George brings to Miami is his experience playing against grown men in professional leagues. This exposure has allowed him to develop at his own pace and become comfortable playing against physically imposing opponents. The transition to college basketball won't catch him off guard, thanks to his prior experiences.

Reflecting on George's decision, his father Deon George’s professional background also played a significant role. Having played professionally overseas and at the collegiate level himself, George's father provided valuable advice and support throughout the decision-making process.

"My father has been incredibly supportive," George said. "He understood my desire to play at the college level and helped me follow my passion. He gave me the freedom to choose Miami or continue playing in France, and I'm grateful for his guidance."

The excitement surrounding Keyshawn George's arrival at Miami is palpable. As he prepares to join the Hurricanes in June, George's unique background, growth spurt, and European style of play make him an intriguing prospect for the team.

I love any guard who is modeling his game after SGA. Coach L will enjoy this young man’s skillset. Don’t be surprised if his playing time and importance increases over the course of the season as the coaching staff finds new ways to use him.

This guy more so that Matt Cleveland has the skills to fill Miller’s role, IMO.
