The future was on display on Saturday, as five-star freshman DT Justin Scott overpowered the FAMU interior line for the first sack of his career. He met with reporters to discuss his progress.
On what allowed him to play early: Just having Coach JT, a Hall of Famer, one of the main reasons why I chose the program. He coaches me on all the little small things. But also having a lot of vets, Simeon Barrow, transfer from Michigan State, ‘Kheem (Mesidor), having those guys in front of me, just learning, watching the film, and seeing what they're doing, and applying it to my game.
On his first career sack: I just went out and played my game and it came to me. That was one thing Coach JT told me, just play my game. Even last week at Florida when I got in there for a few plays, just play my game and my game is gonna come to me. I just trusted what he said and it came to me.
On receiving early playing time: I feel like it's good that we’re getting in there. We’re learning from guys in front of us, getting in the playbook and doing the right stuff early. I feel like for both of us (Scott and Jordan Lyle), we’re keeping our head down and trying to get our games better.
On Jason Taylor coaching when he could be doing other things: That shows that he wants to be there. Miami's where he wants to be. He went to the league, he made all that money. So that's just showing his passion. He wants to coach and just spread his knowledge to the rest.
