The University of Miami baseball team (4-1) took game one of their weekend series against Princeton (0-1), 3-1.
Right-handed pitcher Nick Robert (2-0) added a stellar second outing to his sophomore campaign Friday night. Robert earned the win after striking out a career-high eight batters in five innings, giving up two hits and a lone unearned run in the third.
In the second inning, catcher Tanner Smith blasted the ball 378 feet over the left field fence for a two-run home run, propelling Miami to a 2-0 lead.
Outfielder Max Galvin, who had a perfect night at the plate going 3-for-3, was able to drive in Dorian Gonzalez Jr. in the bottom of the sixth to push the Miami lead to 3-1.
Right-handed pitchers AJ Ciscar, Carson Fischer and Will Smith kept the Tigers’ bats quiet allowing just one hit in the final four innings while striking out six.
