GAMEDAY: Miami basketball hosts FDU in season opener (and Georgia Tech Week too)

The wait is over. Tonight, the Hurricanes begin the 2024-25 college basketball season with their home opener in Coral Gables. At 7:00 PM in the Watsco Center, Miami will host Fairleigh ****inson out of the Northeast Conference in the first regular season game. ACC Network Extra and ESPN+ will stream the game for everyone.

Here are other things to know about the game and what’s ahead for the day, including the usual Monday schedule of events for Miami Football:

Miami Basketball’s Home-Opener

At 7 p.m. tonight, ESPN+ will stream Miami’s home basketball home opener game against the Fairleigh ****inson Knights. The Hurricanes begin the season unranked in both the AP and the Coaches Polls and enter tonight’s game projected as the No. 6 team in the ACC.

1. The Knights were picked third in the conference preseason poll, behind Central Connecticut State and Wagner.

2. FDU lost four starters from last year's squad. Jo'el Emanuel is the only returnee. The Hurricanes need to keep an eye on him, as he received preseason honors. In the 2023-24 season, the versatile forward averaged 10.6 points per game and 5.2 rebounds.

3. The Knights lost to Lafayette in a secret scrimmage with a score of 78-69.

4. FDU went 15-17 a year ago with an early exit in the quarterfinals of the NEC Tournament.

Matthew Cleveland could be playing today.

According to a report from Jon Rothstein, Miami's experienced swingman Matthew Cleveland might not be ready to go versus FDU. However, in Jim Larranaga's post-game conference against Saint Leo, he said Cleveland might be back by today's game. We will know more later.

"He has been out for two weeks. I think he'll be back tomorrow." Larranaga said

Last season for the Miami Hurricanes, he averaged 13.7 points per game to go along with 6.7 rebounds per game and 1.7 assists per game.

Miami opened as a 23.5-point favorite in the game.​

According to FanDuel, Miami has opened as a 23.5-point favorite over the Knights.

Miami Football opens as a favorite over Georgia Tech.

DraftKings has the Canes as a 12.5-point favorite. Kickoff is set for Saturday, Nov. 9, at noon EST (ESPN) at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

According to ESPN Analytics, Miami has a 76.9 percent chance of beating GT.
