The Miami Hurricanes continue to prepare for their season opener against the Miami (OH) RedHawks. One of the players that fans are most eager to see is true freshman defensive end, Rueben Bain. The Miami Central product Bain is already making waves in the Hurricanes' camp and looks forward to making a "huge impact" this season.

More than Just Freshmen

Rueben Bain highlighted the competitive spirit among this year's freshman class, noting that their desire to succeed goes beyond the norm. "I've definitely seen it every day in practice. We're going at it, whether it's freshman-on-freshman or against the older guys. We just come in and work," Bain said. He believes that the coaching staff recognized this drive early on. "I feel like the coaches saw that in us before even bringing us here. Now we're just showing why they recruited us by working hard every day."

High Expectations

When asked about the kind of impact he expects to make in his debut season, Bain didn't shy away from setting the bar high. "I have high expectations for myself, but I feel like I can make a huge impact. I'm just really excited to play into the scheme. I know if I play into this scheme, I'll be a superstar. I'm willing to trust my coaches and reach the expectations everyone has set for me," he remarked.

Family and Tradition

Bain is also aware of the history and tradition he's stepping into, especially considering he has family members who have played before him. "I'm just excited to play for my family and my city. I want to be able to take in the moment and just play hard football. The first thing that will be on my mind will be my parents and other family members. I'm just excited to play," Bain conveyed with palpable enthusiasm.

A Worthy Opponent

When discussing the upcoming matchup with the Miami RedHawks, Bain emphasized the need for a strong performance. "They are an aggressive team, so we're going to have to bring our A-game. The quarterback's pretty good and can move around. We're not looking at them as any pushover; we're just ready to play Friday night," he said.

Responding to the Miami Ohio quarterback's recent comment about showing who the 'real Miami' is, Bain said, "We're not really paying attention to that. We're just ready to focus on the game on Friday and show what we've been working on all week."

The Importance of Leadership

As a freshman, Bain is already attuned to the leadership qualities on the team, particularly on defense. "The leaders have been telling me to take all my opportunities and make the most of whatever I've got. I'm just listening to that and really putting my head down to work. I'm not too big-headed, thinking I'm too good for anything. I'm listening to any information I can get and applying it to my game."

He looks like he’s 30 year old

Why aren't Bain and little Mauigua's jerseys available on the NIL jersey creator? Fletcher, CJ, and Samson are on there. I am trying to decide on this years jersey to support someone and was looking at one of these 2 depending on how they start and enjoy it for a good 3 years

The biggest splash will be against TA&M. If he performs well against them, the national rep will grow fast and all of those supposed experts who didn't give him his well-deserved 5th star, will be eating their words. Until proven otherwise, in my mind, he is THE best frosh DL and the nation is about to experience this young man's Freshman AA year.

When is the last time Miami coaches let freshmen talk this much to the media? I don’t remember seeing this with last coaching staphs.

This guy is a fuggin stud and a SENSATION. I can't wait to watch this dude rip QB's heads off.
And I got 0 fugs to give if you call me a Bain slurper..... I just want to be at the front of that line cuz it's about to get real long.

I believe I'm in front of you in that line and everyone else for that matter. I've been banging the Bain drum and guzzling the Bain-Ade since the spring. I've been telling anyone who would listen that this kid is going to be a difference maker from the first game. I saw him in the spring game and honestly that's all I needed to see.

With Bain it's more than physical tools. Height, weight, length, wingspan, athleticism, quickness, agility, strength, explosion, first step, closing burst etc.... This kid loves to play the game and relishes in the competition and the challenge. It's obvious that he loves and respects UM football and is proud of his family connection to the program but there is something more to him that I couldn't put my finger on at first.

It's not the fact that Bain is surprisingly technically sound and polished for a true freshman in college which he definitely is. No it's something else. Then it hit me. This kid has that intangible that all the UM greats have had from Blades to Irvin to Lewis to Reed to Vilma to Shockey. Reuben Bain like all those I mentioned and more isn't intimidated by the size of the stage. He posseses a confidence bordering on arrogance but it's not a false bravado like we have seen here for too long. No, with Bain it's a brashness rooted in both a passion for the game and the passion for competing on the largest stage and winning. Like those Hurricane greats of the past, Bain is the type of player who wants to be in the biggest moment against the very best opponent on the biggest stage with the brightest lights and the largest audience because he lives to make big time plays in big time games when the stakes are at their highest.

I almost don't want to say this but here goes. I don't think Bain is the only one on the team who falls into the above category. I think we have several.
