Four Miami Hurricanes were named to the 2025 ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, the National Football Foundation (NFF) announced Monday.

77 players and nine coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision and 101 players and 34 coaches from the divisional ranks were selected to the ballot.

Quarterback Ken Dorsey, linebacker Darrin Smith and defensive back Sean Taylor were selected to the ballot, as was head coach Larry Coker.

Dorsey, a 2002 first-team All-American, led the Hurricanes to back-to-back BCS Championship Games in 2001 and 2002, winning the national title his junior season. Dorsey was a two-time BIG EAST Co-Offensive Player of the Year and was named 2001 Maxwell Player of the Year. He left Miami as the school’s record holder in career total offense and passing yards.

Smith was a two-time first-team All-American who helped lead the Canes to two national championships in 1989 and 1991. Smith, a 1992 NFF National Scholar-Athlete, led the Hurricanes to two BIG EAST titles while his teams did not lose a conference game during his career. Smith was the 1991 BIG EAST Co-Defensive Player of the Year and was a two-time first-team all-conference performer.

A 2003 unanimous first-team All-American, Taylor was named a finalist for the Thorpe Award in his final season with the Hurricanes. Taylor helped lead the Hurricanes to consecutive national championship games, including a win at the 2002 Rose Bowl. Taylor was the 2003 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and was a two-time first-team All-BIG EAST performer who led the country in interceptions in his final season.

Coker posted a 60-15 record as head coach at Miami, including an astounding 35-3 record in his first three seasons. He led the Hurricanes to consecutive BCS Championship Games, winning the 2002 Rose Bowl and becoming the first rookie head coach to lead his team to a national title since 1948. Coker led the Hurricanes to three BIG EAST titles and orchestrated a 2001 offense that set the conference record with 475 points scored during the regular season.

The announcement of the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be made in January 2025, with specific details to be announced in the future.

Hopefully 3/4 make it. Heck, if Coker makes it too, why not. More good PR for us. Hopefully there are future HOFers on our current roster. Go Canes 🏈

Dorsey, Smith, and Taylor, absolutely, without a doubt.
Coker, what a joke. He did absolutely nothing but bring the team down. That National Championship is hardly his doing.
I 💯 agree with you, but he still has 1 more than me. I'm fine if he gets in, but. . . .

In reality all 4 should get in but at this time Taylor should be a line along with Dorsey.

Why should Coker get in??....For his clapping??....MFer was handed the Greatest collection of talent in NCAA History, and within a few yrs drove everything off a cliff, most notably evaluations and recruiting.
Yep.

You can tell the timing of which message boarder became a fan when deciding the worst coaching reasons (besides administrative) that led to our downfall and Coker is NOT considered as the worst coaching factor.

He, to me, is far worse than any of the usual culprits post Coker because, as you said, he wrecked something amazing (and pretty quickly, too).

We got worse every single year he was in charge.

No way he belongs.

Was it the administration not caring/general ambivalence that allowed a scenario where Coker was able to lead when he shouldn't have and then stay for longer than he needed to?

Is that Coker's fault? I still say he's a chump regardless

I think I’ve read on here that the players then demanded Coker be the coach and the school capitulated to them.

@SWFLHurricane is this what happened???

The Administration's woes started wayyyy back to Howard's days, and culminated to the 9th degree during Butch's tenure. I have some stories that I haven't shared on here that'd make you go mad. @Brooklyndee has stories (in regards to the Administration's BS) that dwarf mine.

I know there's a contingent who gives Butch no credit for 2000-2002, but think about the fact that he built a team that gave Coker a 35-3 record for his first 3 years through sheer inertia.

Pretty much. They marched into Dee's office and pretty much demanded it (with Portis the main mouthpiece) they didn't want a new coach to mess things up.
It was all guys on the offensive side of the ball. Only two or three from the defensive side. But it wasn't cause the defensive side saw him as an issue or anything. Defensive side was just more focused while clint & k2 always had something to say

I don't think it was so much that we didn't want A new coach to mess things up. We didn't want BARRY ALVAREZ and his style of offense to mess everything up. Shalalalla already had Alvarez come to us and talk to the team. The only other option we were told about was Sonny lubick. I don't think most of us understood the coaching tree he came from at the time. We just saw it as Butch was perfect for what we were trying to do. How do we go from that style of defense to a Colorado state guy where it's all gimmicks. If we would've understood we probably would've backed lubick the way the offense backed coker.

I was referring to Alvarez in regards to "New Coach"...I too heard about Lubick, who I loved as DC back in the day.
