The University of Miami women’s basketball team shot an exceptional 53.7 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from beyond the arc; however, they surrendered 86 points and allowed Stanford (15-13, 7-10) to bury 14 3-pointers, as they fell to The Cardinal by a final score of 86-69.
The Hurricanes (14-14, 4-12) were tremendous on the offensive end of the court; but, they struggled defensively, as they were completely unable to slow down a Stanford offense that shot a blistering 56.3 from the field and 51.9 percent from 3-point range.
Hanna Cavinder had one of her best performances in a Miami uniform. The Graduate Student led the way for the Canes, scoring a season-high 19 points on an efficient 8-14 shooting from the field, including 3-6 from behind the arc. Hanna Cavinder also grabbed three rebounds, dished out two assists, and recorded two steals, as she had a stellar outing for Miami.
Haley Cavinder finished second on the squad in scoring, pouring in 16 points on 6-11 shooting, in addition to corralling four boards, and recording a team-high seven assists.
Freshman Ahnay Adams was outstanding off the bench for the Canes. Adams matched her career-high by scoring 11 points on 5-8 shooting, as she provided a significant spark for Miami.
The Hurricanes fell behind quickly, as Stanford opened the contest on an 8-0 run, forcing Miami to take a timeout at the 7:47 mark
Hanna Cavinder nearly single handedly kept the Canes in the game in the first quarter, as she proceeded to score 12 points over the remainder of the period, and Miami trailed 22-21 entering the second stanza.
The Canes continued to keep pace with Stanford in the second quarter, as they shot 56.3 percent from the floor and 75.0 percent from beyond the arc. Miami and Stanford each scored 23 points in the quarter, as the Canes entered halftime trailing 45-44.
Stanford opened the third quarter on a 13- 2 run, expanding their lead up to 12 points at the 5:52 mark. The Cardinal held a 10-point lead entering the final frame, before going on to earn the 17-point victory.
Miami will return to the court on Sunday for their regular-season finale, as they are scheduled to face California at 5 p.m. (ET).
