The University of Miami women’s basketball team (6-0) outscored Charlotte (3-4) 44-27 in the second half to erase a one-point halftime deficit and earn their sixth consecutive victory to commence the season.
With the 79-63 victory over the 49ers, the Hurricanes advanced to the Championship game of the Miami Thanksgiving Tournament, and they will face the winner of Quinnipiac and Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
Miami shot 47.5 percent from the field throughout the game, while limiting Charlotte to just 37.1 percent shooting on the other end of the court, as it was a complete effort from the Canes in the victory.
Miami had five different players score six points or more, and Cameron Williams and Haley Cavinder led the charge with outstanding performances.
Williams was tremendous for the second consecutive game, as she dropped a game-high 22 points on a highly efficient 9-11 shooting from the field, while also pulling down 10 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season.
Haley Cavinder also had a stellar outing, scoring 19 points, in addition to grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out three assists, as she recorded her first double-double of the season.
Hanna Cavinder was exceptional facilitating the offense for Miami, as the graduate student recorded a season-high nine assists, while also scoring nine points, pulling down four rebounds, and tallying two steals.
Freshman Leah Harmon had an impressive performance off the bench. Harmon scored a career-high 11 points on 3-7 shooting from the field and a perfect 4-4 at the free throw line.
Jasmyne Roberts chipped in six points and seven boards in what proved to be a complete team effort for the Canes.
Miami started off a bit slow in the contest, as they fell behind 20-18 at the end of the first quarter.
The two squads continued to go back and forth over the second stanza, and the Canes entered halftime trailing 35-36.
Miami broke through in the third period, outscoring Charlotte 20-13 to take a six-point lead. Harmon capped off the third quarter with an incredible buzzer-beater, as the Canes built significant momentum entering the final period.
Miami continued to pour it on in the final stanza, outscoring the 49ers 24-14 to earn the 16-point victory and remain undefeated.
