For the third straight season, University of Miami defensive coordinator Manny Diaz has been selected as a nominee for the Broyles Award, honoring the nation's top assistant coach.

Under Diaz's direction, the Hurricanes defense has flourished this season; Miami is ranked No. 2 nationally in total defense, No. 4 in yards per play, No. 1 in tackles for loss per game, No. 1 in third down defense and No. 2 in passing yards allowed.

The Hurricanes are also ranked among the nation's leaders in rushing defense, team sacks and turnovers gained.

The 53 nominees in this year's class were selected from approximately 1,500 assistant coaches representing 130 Division One programs across the country. The Broyles Award selection process includes the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), a college football hall-of-fame selection committee and current college head coaches.

An 19-member selection committee of distinguished former head coaches, along with a committee representing the FWAA will select 15 semi-finalists and five finalists from the list of nominees and an overall winner.

Those finalists will be invited to travel to Little Rock, Ark. where the 2018 Broyles Award winner will be announced on Tuesday, December 4th at the Marriott Hotel.

Everyone in the room is looking at you, Mark. Your team is failing miserably despite one of the best defenses and best assistant coaches in the country.

Seriously, I'm 110% certain that Jimmy would be more than happy to teach you how to fish. And ESPN would probably hire you in a second to do nothing but talk football for 3-5 hours a day on fall Saturdays. It would be a lovely life style.

Wow, that just makes Richt look that much worse. If ever that **** James Coley was the OC we’d have 1 loss maximum

Looking at the list of nominees, is there anyone on the list who would make a good fit on the UM staff?

Kendall Briles (OC/QBs for Houston)?

Manny’s side of the ball is a handsome brain surgeon who comes home for Thanksgiving weekend with his beautiful wife and children.

Then his brother Mark Richt arrives, wearing a padded helmet while his Haitian nurse escorts him inside. Richt proceeds to spend the entire dinner shoving mashed potatoes down his pants and screeching over Manny who is attempting to detail his latest charity work.

Oh, then their youngest sibling, Special Teams, shows up and ***** inside the turkey.

Basically, amazing job by Manny with his defense. The job he’s done becomes more impressive when you consider who he’s got on the other side of the ball and how it’s impacted field position, time of possession, and overall morale.

Manny Diaz gets nominated for the Broyles award 3 straight years at Miami.

No one on our offensive staff has even gotten a mention over the last 3 years.

Does ACC coach of the year count?

Well deserved. I'm not sure how long we will be blessed with his presence.

Think he'll get it this year?

No. I was responding to your statement "No one on our offensive staff has even gotten a mention over the last 3 years". So does that count as a mention to you or not?

In terms of assistants, no.

No one on the offensive staff is on the national radar like Diaz is.
