Daryl Porter has had a quiet start to the season, which is just how he likes it. The veteran cover corner met with the media to discuss the DB room and the upcoming game against Ball State:

On the young players in the secondary: They came out up and running. Everybody's confident. Everybody's playing together. I feel like we're going to have a really good game this week.

On the injury to Damari Brown: Next man up. It doesn't matter who's in the game. You have to make sure you're ready for your opportunity. We've been trying to tell each and every person to be ready for the opportunity when it comes. As you guys can see, we're playing together and we look good right now.

On being added to the NCAA video game: I actually got a lot of DMs from Twitter, Instagram, social media. They said the corners weren't that good on there. Of course, I wanted to be in the game when it first came out. it didn't happen. So eventually they DMed me once I put something out on Twitter about me being in the game. It was like 40 days later they put me in at about 86 overall. I think I'm a little higher than that, but for the most part it's pretty fun using myself. It's been a dream come true. I always wanted to be in a video game when I was younger, so I made it happen.

On the upsets happening around the country: I’ve actually been a part of one of those games when I was in West Virginia. We played Brock Purdy and Breese Hall. Nobody thought we would win. And then we came out with the upset beating Iowa State. Every week, you’ve got to stay humble no matter who you play. Everybody wants to beat the Hurricanes. Doesn't matter what year we're in. Every year, everybody's going to give us their best.

He gets it. Seen it time and time again on this board.

“Everybody wants to beat the Hurricanes.”

A milestone realization. If this players know just this one thing, they’ll practice and prepare differently from the teams of recent past.
