Damien Martinez will play in the bowl game versus Iowa State

Miami Hurricanes running back Damien Martinez confirmed on social media that he will play in the Pop-Tarts Bowl against Iowa State on December 28th.

"Another chance to go 1-0 with my guys, 28th ready to hit the field again," Martinez posted on X earlier today.

Martinez has rushed for 823 yards this season, leading the Hurricanes in rushing on 145 attempts. He averages 5.7 yards per carry and scored nine touchdowns on the ground.

Respect to him for opting in. Hope to see a few more on the fence opt in too. Cam, X, and Arroyo I totally understand and wouldn't hate one bit if they sat out.

Martinez in theory has another season of eligibility, if he is so inclined. Makes me wonder whether he wants to come back and be part of this. If he does want another go, get him the best insurance possible and pay him whatever he wants. Imagine Fletch, Martinez and Lyle again. That said, it's also very unlikely he comes back.

I would LOVE to have this guy back. Make him an offer he can't refuse to stay another year. Him ajay and Lyle is ridiculous. Keep fletch as odd man out.

ha, we aren't reducing Fletchers carries. Doesn't matter his performance, staff loves him.

RB shouldn't be getting a big NIL bag right now. QB, WR1, DB. And need an EDGE and DT with a good floor that can at min get rotational snaps.

Insurance policy up and suit up. Arroyo is the only risk in terms of draft stock. Can,X, George and the rest of the guys aren’t charging their draft value in a bowl game

I know we have other holes but this kid should be first team all acc next year with his skillset and our OL. Let Samson and a few dead weight NIL deals go and keep this guy.

I thought ajay was leaving. someone else told me the staff let CJ go for Ajay. who knows.

Fletcher just steals carries from this dude with less output. And I love fletcher as a person he's just not that guy.

He wouldn't get enough touches to be 1st team all acc, under any circumstance that involves Fletcher on this team and healthy. He was clearly our best Rb this year and had like 140 carries with Fletcher getting 100. Next year Lyle will need more touches than his 45.
What should happen and what will seem to be 2 very different things.

Martinez + Lyle would be a great 1-2. But it won't be.

With those three, we could be a running team next year and not miss a beat on offense. If guys buy in and keep grinding, we could turn the corner yet.

Another chance for Mario to do whats right for the team.
Martinez with a little more usage would do wonders for the new qb. Give him 50 percent of the carries in non-meaningful games and 80 percent in the must haves.

Lyle and Fletcher can split remaining carries with Lyle getting a slight majority of those carries.

And there will be carries to go around to all 3 next year as we should be running a little bit more too.
