Damien Martinez reintroduced himself as a premier back on Saturday with a 30-yard steamrolling touchdown. He met with reporters to discuss his big game:
On his touchdown: The offensive line and tight ends did their job, blocking and creating a hole. I just did the rest. I’ve been coached to get to the spot in the second level and do what got me to this point.
On his running style: It's me naturally being a bigger back and wanting to run with a relentless mentality. [I can’t let] the first person bring me down.
On the running game: Everybody wants to stop the run and force Cam to throw the ball. I don't know why you'd want to do that and leave one-on-one coverage on our receivers. But going into the week we have our game plan, and we just want to execute every time we can. I feel like we go against the best defense every day, so when we come out here, nothing surprises us.
On watching the other backs have success: The running back room set us off all season long. We feed off each other's energy. When one person makes a play, we all want to make a play. If one of us is in, I’m just hyping them up, making sure they do their job to execute so we can win.
On his relationship with Mark Fletcher: It's been great. Mark's one of my closest friends on the team. There's no reason to tear anybody down. We feed off each other's energy and keep it up. Adding Ajay Allen in the second half, we all have an impact on the game.
On Ajay Allen: He wants to get on the field and make an impact. He’s had limited chances. But when he goes in, we are all happy for him. We know he can make a play. Everybody in the room can make a play. He did his thing.
On the players-only meeting: We know we have to take another step. We haven't played our best ball at all this whole season. We want to do that each and every opportunity we get. We came out after bye week with the same mentality.
