Collins: "I'm Committed To Miami"

2013 RB Alex Collins from South Plantation was one of the early commitments for this year's recruiting class. There has been a lot of talk about him keeping his options open, but for now he is leading his team to an undefeated 6-0 record, as they defeated Hollywood Hills 18-0 tonight.

"It was a really good win, but we didn't really do what we wanted to, which was put this team away in the beginning. We started out really slow, which is something we have to break out of and come out strong. Defensively we did well because they didn't score a point, but offensively we couldn't really find a flow."

Before the season began, not many people thought the Paladins would have the success they're having.

"It feels good knowing that you have the capability to go undefeated. This team has been together for two years now and everyone knew we had the capability, but outside people didn't give us a chance."

Collins made his decision to attend Miami back in the Spring. A few things helped make that choice an easy one for him at that point.

"I basically made that decision because it's the school I grew up liking. It's close to home and my family will be able to come to my games. That's pretty much why I made that decision."

Despite him sticking by his Miami commitment, Collins has not completely shut down the recruiting process.

"I've been looking at Florida State, Wisconsin, and Florida. I recently took a visit to Wisconsin, it was pretty good. I've just been traveling to see what else is out there."

Collins has an answer to all the rumors about his commitment.

"Everyone is still trying to find out if I am a solid commitment or a soft commitment, but I basically have no explanation for them. I'm committed to Miami, I just like to see what else is out there."

Both Miami and Wisconsin have senior running backs graduating this year, Mike James and Montee Ball.

"It's something that I think about, but every time that somebody leaves, another person comes in. So it's just about working harder than the other person in practice. I just feel that wherever I go, I will outwork that next person to get my carries."

Many 'Canes fans have been salivating at the idea of him and Duke Johnson sharing the backfield in the future.

"I've seen him play this year and I think he's a good running back. It would be a great combination if we play together."

Just some observations from tonight's game:

-Collins got banged up midway through the 3rd quarter with what looked like an ankle injury. He had it iced after the game but didn't think it was too serious.

-His numbers weren't incredible in this game, but all I needed to see was his aggressiveness when he was running. He hits the hole with a head of steam looking to run through the defender. I can't say how many times he straight up lowered his shoulder to run somebody over. There was one play where there was a false start called and he had the ball after the whistle blew and he just ran over a kid.

-For as big as he is right now, he can get much bigger, easily to a legit 225 possibly keeping that speed. You can tell he hasn't gone through an extensive amount of lower-body work in the weight room.

-Incredible feet and change of direction...absolutely special for somebody his size

I have a gut feeling he sticks, and I hope with all my being I'm right. Only thing I'm worried about is if/when he takes an official to FSU.

He should stick. Check the NFL RB numbers. What RB's did FSU produce? Warrick Dunn and....?????

And that kid they got now is electric, but looks like he throws his food up on purpose. 3rd down NFL back at best.

Duke will be an NFL elite RB. Collins too. Not saying he doesn't have it in him if he goes to FSU, just better off at The U.

Jimbo is who we thought he was. Good salesman, that's all.

Very nice to hear, Collins had me worried for a little while.

So its impressive when he runs some one over after a whistle blows? Don't understand that being put down as a plus. What did you think of #10 from Hills?

Your son signed a release form mom.

Just don't understand whats so impressive running "into" some one that has stood up and stopped playing

You ever heard the term bang-bang play? Google it.

Was at the game, not even close to bang-bang. Everyone stopped, except for Collins. Not saying it was dirty, not saying he isn't good. Just confused when everyone stops except for one player and he runs "into", not over, its a big deal. Kid is a great runner and I will be very happy when he comes to Miami! Do agree, he is at least 215 lbs as well

He doesn't seem fully commited to me. Sounds like he's just holdng a spot till he decides where he really wants to go. I hope he sticks tough.

he sounds fully committed to me and just taking some trips.
