2020 Marietta (GA) WR Jermaine Burton decommitted from Miami on Sunday morning.
The 6-1, 193-pounder is a 4-star ranked #111 overall nationally, the #21 WR, and #15 in the Peach State on 247Sports. Burton is a 4-star with no overall ranking on Rivals. His decommitment does not change Miami’s #1 ranked 2020 class on 247Sports. Rivals has not yet ranked the team classes for 2020.
The Background
Along with Avantae Williams last week, this is the second near top 100 talent to leave Category20 in a few days. This exit hurts, no doubt about it. However, this is just another in a long line of way too early commitments ending with way too early decommitments. The class had a great start, but the reality was not all of the guys were going to stick. I think what you're seeing now is things starting to normalize and guys wanting to experience the full process. It just underscores the idea of not getting too excited about commitments that are three years away from hitting the field, while Miami is still in a great position with an elite class committed in 2020.
Also like Williams, Burton transferred back home after spending a season at IMG Academy. It makes you wonder if leaving home for a year and things not working out for the two at IMG gave them second thoughts about straying too far from home for college. UF for Williams and UGA for Burton would be the “local” schools there. As of now, we expect the Canes to continue recruiting Burton to Miami. He claims he just wants some time to really enjoy the process, but recommits are rare in recruiting, so we’ll see how things develop between the two parties in the next few months.

Burton's decommitment brings the total class numbers down to 6. With both Burton and Leonard Manuel now gone from the class, Champagnat-Catholic (FL) 4-star Marc Britt is looking mighty lonely in what was previously shaping up to be an all-time great receiver class.
While a lot depends on how many receivers the Canes end up taking in 2019, expect traction to pick up with 2020 offerees Palm Beach Central (FL) 4-star Bryan Robinson and Columbus (FL) 3-star Xzavier Henderson. Robinson in particular will be one to watch as a national top 100 player and someone that has shown a lot of interest in the Canes, visiting campus for Underclassman Day a few weeks back.
The most recent offer at WR went to Deerfield Beach (FL) 3-star Deajaun McDougle last week. Miami is playing catch up a bit to Ohio State and others as McDougle had been previously offered by a ton of top schools. McDougle has already been on campus for Underclassman Day back in March.
In terms of new offers you could see go out, keep your eye on two Marcus’: that’d be St. Thomas Aquinas (FL) 4-star Marcus Rosemy and Miami Southridge (FL) 3-star Marcus Fleming. Rosemy has been absolutely dominant on the camp circuit this spring and Fleming has not been shy about his UM interest, constantly making Miami-positive posts on Twitter. Both also stopped in to see Coral Gables for Underclassman Day.
