Neptune Beach (FL) Fletcher four-star receiver Jeremiah Payton committed to Miami just last night.

The 6-2, 180-pounder is ranked 87th overall in the nation according to the 247Composite, the #17 WR in the country, and the #12 player in The Sunshine State. His commitment gives Miami the early #1 class on 247Sports and the #2 class on Rivals.

He brings good size and a very versatile skill set to Coral Gables, and is another elite player at a position Miami is already loaded at.

The Player

Payton has good size at 6’2” 180 pounds as a rising senior in high school and could still be growing. He’ll likely play on the outside for Ron Dugans’ crew.

Payton has great body control in mid-air to be able contort for difficult catches. He has the prototypical frame of a #1 receiver with great hands; he doesn’t drop much. His straight-line speed gives Payton the ability to blow the top off a defense, while still being physical enough to work a defense underneath.

The Class

Payton is the 11th commit overall and 2nd WR in Miami’s 2019 class, joining fellow 4-star WR Brieon Fuller at pass-catcher. Considered a Miami-lean for some time now, Payton gave his commitment to the staff on an unofficial visit to campus over the weekend. TE coach Todd Hartley did a great job reeling him in and Payton’s commitment will keep the momentum rolling for Miami in Duval County.

The Canes just signed 4 WR’s in the 2018 class, so WR was never a huge need for 2019. With Miami likely only taking three, WR now becomes less of a priority in the class and Dugans and the rest of the staff can put all their resources into South Dade 4-star WR Frank Ladson, who was the likely top target at receiver all along in 2019.

The Team

Miami is absolutely loaded at receiver going into the 2018 season and it seems they will keep on stacking chips for 2019 and beyond.

We’ve seen how much Dugans likes to rotate his receivers and he keeps a deep stable to make sure everyone stays fresh. Add this to the fact that the Canes will lose Dayall Harris and Darrell Langham to graduation, and possibly Ahmmon Richards early to the NFL after the 2018 season. With these ideas in mind, Payton could very likely get on the field early with his talent and play a support role as a true freshman in 2019, setting himself up to compete for a starting job as a sophomore in 2020.

Richards will be hard pressed to be drafted early on, to nagging injury prone.

Will probably be about 200 pounds when arriving with that athletic ability. Big framed kid could be 210-215 in a couple of years.

I read somewhere that he is a target fo Alabama and their Piece of **** coach. Can anyone speak to how committed he is? or how likely he is to stick to the commitment, esp when faced with perssure and money from Bama?

You guys need to get used to Alabaga wanting the same recruits we want and quit cowering in fear over it. It’s called recruiting elite players.
yup! Been nice to see us going hard after the elite kids in the country again!
