Schools like WSU, BSU, CSU etc., will always have under the radar talent that slips through the P4 conferences. Amazing how many over rated kids their are nowadays due to the politics in these nike, addidas and 247 camps. From 5 stars to no stars. It is what it is.
And some of these kids are late bloomers or high risk prospects that need to show they can play this level and/or keep their head on str8 off the field

Lets be honest, we have a horrendous bust rate with 4 star kids over the last 20 years. So not over-paying for HS kids (stubbs, pickett) unless they are sure-fire day 1 starter studs and going the portal route for more proven day 1 ready kids seems to be solid strategy.

Depending on how you exactly define what a bust is, one can make it argument that our bust rate is lower than that Bama, Georgia and Ohio State in fact the only team that actually has a low bust rate would be Clemson who under Dabo typically has opted to sign very small classes so that they can actually invest more into each player.

Bama, Georgia Ohio State, Texas, etc. They all understand that scouting and recruiting is an inexact science and you never truly know which kid is going to work out and which kid isn’t so they just bring in the best talent year after year and let the cream rise to the top or natural selection, play out or whatever you wanna call it.

Take Brandon Innis, for example on Ohio State now, former five star receiver out of American Heritage had he signed here he probably would’ve been starting last year and started this year or played a big role and there would probably be complaints about his lack of development or how he’s not really elite or people calling him a bust because he did not become one of the absolute best receivers in the nation. Yes, he had a five star rating Coming out of high school but as it appears now he’s a really good college player not necessarily one of the best in the country.

I wish that meant what it used to…but in theory, great thing
MC did a pretty good job of defending his existing roster in this portal go around so it seems like he is good at keeping the talent he wants in house.

Will give Mario and staff all the credit in the world for their recruiting both of high school talent and the transfer portal. All this defensive help closed without them even knowing who the DC will be is as impressive a sales job as I have seen, perhaps its addition by subtraction and a promise that the next DC will be competent was enough, that and a good pay schedule and pay history. If Mario focused on the things he does well and avoided his weaknesses then that would be good for everyone, of course he would need to identify those weaknesses, He can recruit, not sure about developing players with this staff and I certainly know that in-game decisions for Mario are challenging to be generous. I hope we have an offense like 2024 combined with a defense like 1986-1990 at some point in the remainder of my life, because that combination would be undefeated.

We really need a true 1 at WR still. That group of pass catchers leaves a lot to be desired.
Branch or Thomas would change this room completely. Beard has done a good job thus far recruiting/developing and I think Trader & Carr take the next jump and I wouldn’t be surprised if Moore/Toney Flashes as well.

Also for anyone in the know do the HS rankings get updated one last time before or after the Feb signing day or have the rankings for HS all been finalized ?

Feel like we have a few guys who really deserve to make a jump. Nickle, Toney, SJ, Lowe, Scroggins & Schott all should make decent jumps should there be another update before/after the Feb signing period

As another poster pointed out our Bluechip % is the highest NOW then it’s been in the last 20 years…
