Being a parent of a top division-1 recruit is crazy enough, but Von Burnett is used to the process by now. Burnett is the mother of Miami Hurricanes freshman guard DeAndre Burnett and Miami Central 5-star running back Dalvin Cook. Today’s story will focus on Dalvin’s recruiting process and tomorrow’s story will look at DeAndre’s path to Miami.

Having dealt with both of their recruiting processes, which one has been crazier?

“It’s crazier really for Dalvin. They have the same mother and father, Dalvin stays with his father and DeAndre stayed with me. This whole thing for Dalvin is just bananas. I just want him to make whatever decision that his heart leads him to,” said Burnett.

Burnett has tried to stay away from pushing anything to Dalvin, but she has given him some advice to lean on.

“Everybody is kind of like pulling at him with all of these people in his ear and I just tell him to remain grounded with his decision Your passion and heart will never lead you wrong. I try telling him this will be where he lives for 3-4 years.”

She gave what seems like an honest answer when she says she does not know for sure where he will end up.

“I really honestly don’t know. I know he knows he has a big family on both sides and that we would all want to go support him, so I think it’s going to be in-state.”

Although she is letting her son make his own decision, it’s no secret who she is a fan of.

“I grew up as a Hurricane. I’m a Hurricane all the way and I grew up watching them.”

What would it mean to the family if Cook stayed home in the same city as his brother?

“Oh gosh (laughs), it would be bananas, it would be crazy. The way I look at it, if Dalvin stayed home, him and DeAndre could support each other. They could go to each other’s games and it would really be a great support thing for both of them. Wherever he decides, I will support him, but if he stays it would be really crazy.”

Cook met with Al Golden and staff last night, but she was not present for the meeting. Her visit will come next week.

“I had talked to Coach (Hurlie) Brown and he had told me they were going over there to his father’s house and they’ll be coming to me next week. I think whoever wins him over last will get him. So maybe this is a good thing that this is the last visit.”

Be sure to read tomorrow’s story on DeAndre Burnett.

I thought him and Burnett were half brothers. Them being full brothers has to help us.

I don't remember there being this much urgency for a recruit under Golden, not even for he who went to FSU.

More so then Howard even.

Great work Pete. Reading mama's side of the story gives me hope that he will stay here. Come on Cook, make your mama happy!

Guys, remember that Cook and his mom will likely be viewing this page.

Show lots of love.

Maybe you should take your own advice and edit your pic of a guy busting a nut full of skittles all over a woman right underneath a quote from his mother.
