Cam Ward: If I need to run the ball, I will

Cam Ward is among the national leaders in multiple passing categories, including yards (2nd) and TDs (1st). He met with reporters to discuss USF and the progress of the offense:

On USF: This is going to be one of the most physical teams that we play all year, so it's going to be a good challenge on both sides of the ball. They have returning guys. They have a good DB room, a good safety room. They don't get a lot of credit for what they put on tape this year. We know it's gonna be a challenge and we’re ready for the opportunity.

On the offense’s areas for improvement: Just staying on schedule. Doing the little things the right way. That's something we cleaned up in the last game. The more that we can stay doing the little things, it will help us out this game.

On Emory Williams: He’s grown from an urgency standpoint, from his eyes, seeing space, from getting through progressions faster. He's got way better pocket movement. He hasn’t even reached his full potential yet, but he's starting to get there. We’ve got a quarterback room with me, Reese, even Judd back there, we all help each other out.

It's helped Emory because he's learning off other people's tape now, not just off his. He has a lot more work to do. We all do. But you've seen him in the game. He’s completing passes. He's throwing guys open. He has great feel within the pocket, how to move, when to get the ball out. It's good to see him grow.

On determining whether to run or pass when he scrambles: There’s a time and place when to [run]. I haven’t been put in position to do that yet. But if I need to, I will. When you have a receiving corps like ours with four or five legit dudes who can go, why would you run? You can throw to them and they’re running it wide open. I'm just trying to get the ball to the playmakers.

I loved King and still hope he comes back here to coach one day.

King's arm wasn't in the same zip code as Cam's.
