Miami defensive tackle Branson Deen addressed the team's performance, his comeback from injury, and his perspectives on the challenges that lie ahead for the squad.

When asked about his recent return to the field following an injury, Deen's eyes lit up, "Man, it was amazing to be out there," he exclaimed, adding that his return was not just good for himself but also for the team's defense. "It was absolutely electric."

Deen was asked about standout freshman Rueben Bain, who's been turning heads with his exceptional performance. Bain currently boasts the highest Pro Football Focus grade of the entire Canes defense. Deen, with a chuckle, noted, "It's more of a surprise to the rest of the world because we knew he was different. He challenges himself, he challenges us. He's a leader in our room even as a freshman."

On being quizzed about the team's preparedness for the next game and the strategies slowing down Tar Heels QB Drake Maye, Deen emphasized the importance of consistency.

"The energy is always the same. We have a head coach who's a great leader and sets the tone for us every week," he remarked. He also added that the team's plan is to hit Maye, make him uncomfortable, and move him around.

Deen was also asked about the team’s meeting following the Georgia Tech game. Deen confirmed the meeting's occurrence, hinting that it served as a refresher, ensuring everyone was on the same page. While Deen took the opportunity to speak to his group during this meeting, the primary voice echoing through the room was that of their coach Mario Cristobal.

When asked about last week's sudden change in the game, Deen reflected that it was a great experience to gauge the team's maturity level. As one of the older players, Deen mentioned his role in mentoring younger players, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the game and not external noise. "You can't win them all, but we have to go out there and be players like we always are," he shared.

Wrapping up the session, a determined Deen expressed his eagerness for the upcoming game. "Can't wait," he affirmed.

Him and Cloyd did well and Flagg all year. To be like limited this staff gets the most out of them that’s for sure. Even on bad plays they are mostly doing what they are suppose to do.

I'm not wild about the portal but this is where it helps. Being able to add veterans should bring stabilizing presences to a locker room.
