Austin Swartz spoke at Miami basketball media day and has developed a strong bond with the freshman class and the team since arriving in Miami.

"It's been good, we started in the summer. Obviously, we have a lot of new faces, a lot of new people in the meet, especially from me and the other four freshmen. We haven't been in college, but we also have 8/7 transfers, so they also have to learn everybody on the team... Especially at this point now at the season, this last month, we came a long way, I think we're all on the same page, and we all kind of know how each other plays now and then off the court, it's been awesome—great group of people.”

After graduating from high school, where he attended Cannon School in Concord, NC, Swartz was ranked as the 65th overall player in the class of 2024. He was also ranked as the 13th shooting guard and the 6th player in North Carolina.

Swartz played with Boo Williams coming out of high school, where many talents have emerged from that AAU team, including Nets shooting guard Cam Thomas and Seton Hall point guard Zion Harmon.

Austin is known for his perimeter shooting and averages 1.2 steals per game. Miami needs a strong defender this year, and Austin's ability to guard effectively could benefit the team. However, one area for improvement is his shot selection under pressure.

Swartz stands at an impressive 6-foot-4 and weighs 200 pounds. When Swartz sees a favorable matchup, he thrives on taking on the defender one-on-one and breaking the defender down.

We’ll get our first taste of what that will look like later next week. Miami hosts Saint Leo on Wednesday nightat the Watsco Center in the first exhibition game. Make sure to keep a close eye on Swartz's.
