2014 St. Petersburgh Catholic (Fla.) offensive linemen Reilly Gibbons was one of the many participants in the 2014 Semper-Fidelis Bowl in California. While there Gibbons received not only top notch coaching, but also advice from former marines.
“It was a great experience to be recognized as one of the nations top athletes. The Semper Fi bowl, they take a lot of pride in selecting guys who have a lot of character, have good grades and give back to the community. My grandpa was also a marine and just being around these guys was a cool experience and going up against the nations top athletes and top players, it really let me gage my self.”
While there Gibbons got the opportunity to hang out and socialize with a few other Hurricane commitments including Darrion Owens, Anthony Moten and Brad Kaaya.
“It was cool, me and Darrion were roommates. They worked some magic there to put us in the same room. We got to know each other pretty well and it was a great experience to be around those guys and get to know my future teammates. We saw (Brad) Kaaya at the banquet on Saturday night. My dad and his mom and us stood together for 45 minutes just talking about everything.”
The next step for the ‘Cane commit is to prepare himself for the next level and he is excited for his arrival to Coral Gables.
“I can’t wait, everything seems to be flying by. It seems like a few years ago, I was just starting football and it’s been a great road and experience and I’m just excited to move on to the next step.” Said Gibbons, “My dad has been my strength coach since I was in eighth grade, he’ll lead my workouts until we get the workout log from Miami.”
The St.Petersburg Catholic product has been speaking with his position coach Art Kehoe and always enjoys his calls.
“We talked a little bit, coach Kehoe is coach Kehoe. He’s always got a story and he gives great advice and it’s always fun to be on the phone with him.”
Gibbons admitted that it was a relief to hear the big news recently of head coach Al Golden staying put at Miami and talked about him.
“Well it was definitely a relief to hear about it. I saw it on my twitter and I think it was Sunday or Saturday, but it was definitely a relief to hear he was staying.”
Gibbons is planning on arriving at Miami in the second summer session due to a late graduation.
“I’m have to come in Summer 2, I forget when my graduation is but it’s well into summer 1.”
Gibbons plans on wearing #75 at Miami.
