4-star LB names Miami his leader… sort of

2019 Deerfield Beach 4-star LB Ge’mon Eaford has had a Miami offer (among 42 others) for a while now, and has visited UM’s campus multiple times, so it was known that he had at least some interest in the Hurricanes.

But, when asked if he had a top group of schools or a leader right now, Eaford had an interesting answer. While he’s currently narrowing things down, he hedged a bit when naming a possible leader. Decide for yourself.

“No, not yet, I’m making it now,” Eaford said. “The top (group) will be coming out soon. If I was to say anything though, I’d say Miami.”

Confusing? I don’t blame you. While Miami may now be the unofficial leader for Eaford, he was much more certain how his day went out at the Opening on Sunday.

“I did great,” Eaford said. “If anything, the IMG kids were the toughest to go against, they were the best out there.”

This past season, Eaford actually made a position switch to where most project him to play in college, moving up into the linebacking corps from defensive end.

“It was my first time playing linebacker in my life,” Eaford said. “It’s fun, I like it way better than playing defensive end. I had 77 tackles and I think 21 sacks. I still had a lot of sacks because even though I played linebacker, we ran a 3-4 (defense). The team did good. We lost in the first round (of the playoffs), it was a crazy game. The offense fumbled the ball 9 times.”

As is the case for most top 2019 prospects in this time period, coaches from programs across the country are blowing up their phones trying to convince them to come to their school. Eaford has been no different.

“I’m hearing from everyone, the coaches be texting me non-stop.”

And one of those schools is Miami. But, who on the staff is he hearing from?

“Coach Diaz, coach Dugans,” Eaford said. “I have a great relationship with both those guys.”

Eaford is still in the process of setting up visits, but he knows he’ll be visiting Miami for their junior day.

“Yeah, I’ll be down there for junior day.”

While he’s enjoying the recruiting process, Eaford wants to be able to pick his school of choice by the beginning of his senior year to focus on the football season. A deciding factor? Being able to have a life off the field while on campus.

“I will be committing in August, right before the season,” Eaford said. “Just how the school is outside of football. That’s all I want. Besides football, what is there to do?”

Dugans is recruiting him? Must be his geographic area I guess

Would prefer others over this kid.

He is a 3-4 OLB.

Better for him and us if he goes elsewhere IMO.

Need 4-5 LBs in this class and ILB/OLB Jesiah Piere (commit) is a beast we need to keep.

Rover/OLB Anthony Solomon
ILB Avery Huff
Rover/OLB Keontra Smith
OLB Sam Brooks
OLB Jahmar Brown

Birds of a feather usually flock together, bet he’s not coming!!

It was 2 years ago now. It was the year Jeudy and Leatherwood came. But I think it was him. I am sure a discussion was had and things are cool now. That said, name me one Deerfield kid that didn't go SEC besides James Pierre who I don't even think is at UNC now.

From everything I’ve read on here over the years this school and genron seem like the same group.

5 LBs is too much. Take out Keontra Smith, and I agree with your list.
