Since being offered in January, 2021 Boone (FL) 4-star DE Shambre Jackson has continued to build a relationship with the Miami Hurricanes coaching staff, saying he speaks with UM regularly.
“I like the Canes, I talk to them like every day,” Jackson said. “They’ll send me edits that are pretty cool, they’re just good people over there.
“I talk to Manny (Diaz) a lot and coach (Todd) Stroud. They say I can fit in because I’m a physical specimen, I’m aggressive, and that fits in real well with the Miami defense.”
In early April, Jackson released a top 13 group of schools and the Canes made the cut, along with other programs such as like Ohio State, LSU, Alabama, FSU and Oklahoma to name a few.
“I was getting a lot more offers, I felt like I had to narrow it down,” Jackson said. “Miami made it because I know they develop their D-Line talent. Then the legacy and the history of the college, and I've always heard 'The Rock' gets loud.”
The UM staff has been trying to convince the 6-4 245 pound prospect to come to Coral Gables for an unofficial visit, and Jackson mentioned that he is looking to see the Miami campus once the quarantine is over.
Although he previously set up official visits in June to Oklahoma and Ohio State, Jackson says he will now reschedule those trips, but that he still plans on seeing the Sooners and Buckeyes for an OV.
“I have those locked in still, I’ll still see them at some point, but I don’t know what other officials I’m going to take because of what’s going on,” Jackson said. “I’ve been getting called more during the quarantine, coaches will hit me up on FaceTime. It’s been a better opportunity to get to know the coaches more.”
Some other schools that Jackson says are beginning to stand out include Florida State, LSU, Georgia, and Alabama, and Jackson visited the Crimson Tide for their junior day in early March.
“It was good, it was a tour of the place, they showed us around,” Jackson said of Bama. “I like the history, the culture. I like talking with Nick Saban. I like how they develop players, that’s really nice.”
A frequent point of interest regarding Jackson is his future position at the next level, and Miami has left open the possibility that he could play either DE or DT in college.
“Most schools are saying D-End but they all say I’ll get bigger, so I’ll probably play D-Tackle if that’s the case,” Jackson said. “I don’t know yet, though. I’m pretty fast for a guy my size, and I use my strength to get around opponents. I go 100% every single play.”
