3rd Year Player Development: Mathew McCoy

While there aren't many players left from the Cristobal transition class of 22' the players who have remained have developed into impact players. While I have already spotlighted players like Isaiah Horton and Ahmad Moten (soon coming to CIS) player like Mathew McCoy has flown under the radar.

Now as a 3rd year player at 6'6 300+ McCoy now has the strength to apply the technique that Coach Mirabal has relentlessly instilled into him. After going drive for drive rotation week 1 vs UF, he showed consistent power in the running game and top tier pass protection.

Now with Ryan Rodgriguez sidelined due to injury, McCoy has filled in admirably and has thrived at Left Guard. Despite not leaning on the running game, he has made an impact while run blocking. Several of our most successful runs have been behind his ability to move defensive linemen from gaps. Yet another example of the development of HS recruits at Miami under Mario Cristobal instead of having to rely on portal players with no depth as the teams up north do. #GoCanes

When it comes to recruiting and developing offensive linemen, no one does it better than Cristobal and Mirabal.
