2021 Champagnat Catholic (FL) K Andres Borregales signed with the Miami Hurricanes today.
The 5-11, 140-pounder is currently a consensus 3-star in the national rankings. According to the 247Composite, Borregales is the #1675 player nationally, the #3 K in the country, and the #239 player in Florida.
Recruiting Story
Borregales was known as a premier kicking prospect early on, winning top kicker awards at numerous national camps as a sophomore in high school. He is also the younger brother of current Hurricanes kicker Jose Borregales. Andres did not take long to pull the trigger for the Hurricanes, as he received his offer back in early May of 2019 and committed to Miami at a specialists camp on campus a month later. Despite a summer 2020 push from UNC and Louisville, Borregales instead elected to shut down his recruitment and stick with Miami.
Evaluation
Borregales is known for his strong leg, and there is film of him kicking a 67-yard field goal in practice at just 16 years old. His timing and rhythm are very advanced for his age, and he gets exceptional lift off his boots. Solid accuracy that will improve as his technique becomes more refined. Gets plenty of hangtime on his kickoffs and often places them out of the endzone or very close to it. He is also an experienced punter and could potentially fill that role as well at some point if Miami so chooses.
The Team
Jose Borregales had one of the best seasons of any kicker in the entire country in 2020 as a 5th year grad transfer and wouldn’t be blamed for going pro, although he can still technically stay at UM. Camden Price was the next man up on the current roster in 2020 as a former walk-on that earned a scholarship last offseason.
Redshirt Probability: 2/10
This essentially hinges entirely on if Jose elects to go pro, which seems likely as of now. If Jose does make the jump, the kicking job will be Andres’ to lose, although he will technically compete with Price for the role starting this spring. If Jose stays, that will give Andres a year grace period to adjust to college life before handling the starting job in Coral Gables.
