The Miami Hurricanes got the top prospect in North Carolina for the 2021 class on campus recently when Dudley 5-star DT Payton Page visited UM for Paradise Camp.
“Well, it was just another blessed experience,” Page said of UM. “What stood out was how they have a lot of fun there.”
The 6-4 315 pound prospect was already planning to be in Miami on vacation that weekend with his family, and the Miami coaching staff convinced them to spend a day in Coral Gables.
“My parents, they loved the environment at Miami,” Page said.
After spending Saturday at UM, Page called the coaches on Sunday morning and found out he had a Miami offer.
“I felt great and I’m just thankful that the University of Miami believes in my abilities,” Page said. “Sean Taylor has always been one of my favorite players.”
Although he didn’t participate in the competitive portion of the camp itself and didn’t get any 1-on-1 time with any of the former Miami players that were there, Page says he has interacted with a Miami legend before and they talked about what it was like at the U.
“I did meet Ed Reed in the past,” Page said. “Basically, he told me how he had a lot of fun at Miami, but you also got to hang out with right people.”
Page says the Miami staff told him that they see him as a 3-tech on the defensive line. But, obviously, the Canes are not the only prominent school trying to secure Page’s services. He lists over 30 offers thus far, with some of the notable schools including Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Georgia, and Oklahoma among others.
In the fall, Page plans to release a top list of double-digit schools, although he preferred to keep to himself which schools are standing out to him as of now. This spring, the talented interior lineman has visited UNC multiple times, along with Clemson and Alabama. He also visited Tennessee last weekend after the dead period ended.
As a sophomore at Dudley, Page totaled 80 tackles, 26 TFL, and 10 sacks in 2018.
“My strengths are my hand technique and my quickness off the snap,” Page said. “I’m a pass rusher, that’s what I do.”
