2021 4-star WR Bralon Brown has had a fast start to his offseason so far: the Chaminade Madonna star had a dominant performance for South Florida Express 7-on-7 in their run to the finals in the Battle tournament, then followed that up by winning Rivals’ WR MVP last weekend at their Miami camp.
“I just knew I had to go get it, make plays for my team to put us in a good position to score,” Brown said of his Battle performance. “We lost, so regardless, I didn’t do good enough. For a lot of us, it’s our first tournament together, so we’ll bounce back.”
In terms of recruiting, Brown’s profile is currently that of a high Power 5 prospect, and the 6-2 190 pound prospect has been hearing from college coaches more than ever since the calendar flipped.
“I’m talking to schools, really everybody: Penn State, West Virginia, Auburn, Florida, Miami,” Brown said. “I think I have a visit set up to Florida on March 7th.”
Of course, the Miami Hurricanes are the local school for the South Florida resident Brown, and UM has been on Brown hard since this past fall.
“It’s right there near home, the environment and atmosphere they built there is great,” Brown said of Miami. “Coach Diaz is a good guy and a cool coach.”
Penn State was Brown’s first Power 5 offer and the Nittany Lions got a boost in this recruitment when they hired former UM receivers coach Taylor Stubblefield last month, who has long had a relationship with Brown; Brown also visited PSU last summer.
“I’ve always had good a connection with him, he’s a great coach,” Brown said of Stubblefield. “I’m also in touch with coach [Ja’Juan] Seider a lot, the coaches make it like a family environment up there.”
Brown has also talked with Rob Likens, Miami’s new WR coach that was hired over the weekend, and he is excited about the new offense UM will be running with Likens and new OC Rhett Lashlee.
“With the coaching switch, they’re going to throw the ball more, more of an ‘Air-Raid style of offense,” Brown said. “For any receiver, it’s a dream to play in a spread offense, get more chances to make plays. It's more appealing to me, shows I can have an impact there. [Likens’] message to me was they want to keep me home.”
While initially saying he wasn’t ready to make a decision yet, Brown announced on Twitter today that his commitment announcement would be coming “soon”. What will be deciding factors for him?
“A family environment, a place where I’ll be able to perform and make plays for my team. Also great academics.”
As a junior for Chaminade, Brown caught 16 passes for 289 yards and 4 TD’s in 7 games after missing part of the 2019 season with injury.
