2021 4-star DE Kechaun Bennett Recieves Miami Offer, Outlines Recruitment

2021 4-star defensive end Kechaun Bennett from Suffield Academy in Connecticut received an offer from Miami yesterday after a phone conversation with outside linebackers coach Jonathan Patke.

“When they offered me I was super excited and grateful because I visited Florida a couple of times and I love the atmosphere and the weather.” Bennett continued, “I always wanted an offer because I want to move to Florida in the future. When they came to my school, I thought they weren’t interested because they visited multiple times and didn’t talk to me.”

This was the first real communication Bennett has had with the staff at Miami so no visit is set yet, but one will likely happen.

“I want to visit in the summer.”

What is Bennett looking for from Miami during his recruitment?

“The relationship I’ll build with the coaches and the competitive nature Miami has because I love to compete. They didn’t say much about the defense, only that I’ll be a good addition.”

Bennett only has two visits set up right now and those are to Michigan and Notre Dame, both scheduled for next month. Miami does have time to make a move in the recruitment since Bennett will not be making a decision until after his senior season. One of the factors Miami has working for them is Bennett’s former teammate, current Canes freshman QB Tyler Van Dyke.

“He was the person to tell me to call the coaches. I talked to him after about Miami and he loves it so far.”

Bennett thinks very highly of Van Dyke as both a player and a person.

“I think he's a great player. He's actually the best quarterback I’ve seen and he’s a hardworking person who has a goofy side.”

While having Van Dyke is an advantage for Miami, other factors will play a role in the final decision.

“Weight room, academics, and I just have to like the atmosphere.”

He's raw but he reminds me of Chickillo as an athlete.

I like the offer. Bennett's first step is a good one. He also has great ball and field awareness. On some of those highlights, his closing speed to tackle the QB or ball carrier was impressive.

I wouldn't say he's elite, there is some hesitation in his play at times that he needs to work on, too much thinking for a relatively simple role primarily as an edge rusher. But he's got the potential to develop into a solid Miami DE with Stroud's coaching.

Bring him in to Paradise.

I doubt that last part, this is a lazy offer by Coach Stroud. Florida is loaded with DE's but now we are going to the Nutmeg state to find what grows on trees in the sunshine state.

Bennett looks fast on film because the CT competition he is playing against is very slow. He will get eaten up at Paradise Camp playing against quality competition.

For instance I feel 2020 DE KEANU KOHT is better and a proven SFL prospect

Paramos going negative. I don’t see how looking at a teammate of your new QB is lazy. Or the harm in offering based on that tape. But I agree with you we’ll find out at Paradise if the kid can go up against quality comp.

FWIW, he seems plenty fast to me based upon first step after the ball is snapped and his closing speed, neither of which is dependent upon level of competition.

Check your vision the kids comp is hella suspicious. An the fact you said the level of competition doesn't reflect the appearance of players get off and closing speed is an uninformed statement. If Bennett is going against a slow unathletic offensive tackle of course his get off will appear fast. An as for closing speed if Bennett is 4.7 sec shuttle guy chasing down a 5.0+ sec shuttle guy of course his closing speed will appear impressive. SFL skill players would easily run away from this guy.

But yeah I am going negative about Bennett because I am stating facts.

Kechaun Bennett is a 4 star DE and he is nowhere to be found on the CanesInsight.com recruiting database. Why?

Paranos, I respect your opinion on DL (though not your taste in women).

But you didn't understand my point here. I was looking at the ball being snapped, and then how quickly Bennett moved his feet across the line. I don't need to even look at the OL to know if the kid has a good first step or not. Same thing with closing speed. I'm not looking at the offensive player at all. I'm just looking at the time it takes for Bennett to cover the 5 yards he needs to knock the guy's teeth out.

Again, he's not elite. But he's got the necessary raw materials. You may be right he gets embarrassed at Paradise. IIRC, so did Leatherwood, so that's not necessarily the only thing you look at. ... IMHO, Stroud is smart to throw him an early offer so he can do an in-person eval on him.

Thanks for your opinion! Because everything you said is opinion based....he might kill it at paradise, did you watch every game he played? So everybody in connecticut is slow.

Lazy recruiting is only recruiting florida! Stroud is in the north east turning over evrry rock looking f4 talent. Lazy does not apply here!!

How many 2020 high school players in Conn signed P5 offers ( I will give you a guess it's less than 3?). There quite a few individual high schools in Florida that had more players sign P5 offers than the whole state of Connecticut. So on aggregate basis yes Conn players are slow.
