2020 4-star CB Davis gets visit from Hartley, plans summer trip to campus

2020 Trinity Christian Academy (FL) 4-star CB Fred Davis has racked up 11 early offers so far, including from Alabama, Florida, UCLA, Virginia Tech, and, of course, the Miami Hurricanes. UM has made him a priority even as an underclassman, sending staff to watch both Davis and 2019 commit RB Marcus Crowley for TCA’s spring game on Tuesday.

“Things are going good with Miami, they were at the spring game the other day,” Davis said of the Canes.

Leading the charge at the spring game was Miami TE coach Todd Hartley, who continues to make in-roads in Duval County.

“My relationship with coach Hartley is great,” Davis said. “He is a person that will keep it real with you and tell you the truth.”

CB coach Mike Rumph is also in contact with Davis and has teamed with Hartley to get Davis on board in Category20. Last time Davis spoke with CIS, he said Miami offered him as a defensive back in general. He narrowed that down this time, saying UM views him as a cornerback.

“They like me at corner,” Davis said. “They say I will fit into their defense because I’m fast, physical, long, and have good technique.”

Davis cites the people at UM, along with the academic appeal of Miami and the ability to come back to the program in the future as features that draw him to Coral Gables.

“The players and the coaches are what I like most about Miami,” Davis said. “Also the education, it’s a private college so it’s not so big, so I can have one-on-one’s with some of my teachers if I need it. Also, I can see myself playing there and if I end up going to the NFL, Miami would be a place I would always come back to.”

As for upcoming visits, Davis plans a return trip to UM in the summer, along with visits to two SEC programs.

“So far, I’ll be going to Miami, Bama, and Florida in the summer,” Davis said.

While Davis is not yet ready to start narrowing things down and is taking the process slow, his eventual school of choice will be able to offer a comforting atmosphere, academics, opportunities after football, and a chance to see the field right away.

“I’m just enjoying the process right now,” Davis said. “What I’m looking for in a school is a school that I will get early playing time, a good education, good environment, and where I can see myself coming back there after football.”

If playing at a school that you can come back to is a real determining criteria, then why in **** list baga for consideration? Nobody goes to that state for anything

Just got bumped to a 5 star on Rivals, would be a huge get

Trinity Christian has a good thing going. I dont know what they're doing up there but whatever it is its working. Let's get Crowley and Davis and establish TC as a Miami pipeline.

I think Derrick Smith was and still is criminally underrated by our fan base. I see Smith breaking out in a big way this year. As the No1 at striker he will certainly have the opportunity.

Speaking of underrated, Marcus Crowley is a kid I can see blowing up his senior year. Crowley is big and powerful with very good speed and great hands. Crowley has the type of athleticism and fluidity that you wouldn't necessarily expect in a back his size.

At 6'1" 175 lbs Fred Davis is an elite DB who could project to either CB or S at the next level. We are recruiting Davis at CB as his coverage ability and technique stand out for a player at his stage in development. Davis is a 5 star talent and the staff has made him a top priority. This would be a huge get and Davis has already stated how much he loves the staff and the players at UM. We have a great opportunity here to really cement our presence in the Jacksonville area.

I think it's clear that the staff has to pursue DB's outside of the State of Miami with as much vigor as local DB's. Because the top local DB's don't seem willing to commit to the U or leave us in limbo, hoping.

There is a window that is closing in Jacksonville, a traditional Gator territory, where the Gator's coaching mess allowed us to get our foot in the door. I say make that area a top priority right after South Florida and treat Trinity Christian as we do top feeder schools like St Thomas, NW, Booker T, Central, Carol City, etc. I think the staff its trying to do that but we must get CMR and Dias up there more often. There are a couple of great OT in that neck of the woods for the '20 period as well.

Gator coaching mess has nothing to do with Miami success in Jacksonville, they see their players balling out at Miami and the area itself is different. They see mike pickney and shaq quarterman starting since true freshman. They see Kendrick Norton starting for two years and Derrick smith getting playing time as a freshman
