Back on January 20th, the Canes got their most recent 2019 commitment when 3-star DE Cameron Williams flipped from Florida to Miami. For the first time since then, Williams took the field to show off his ability, as he attended the Rivals 3 Stripe Miami Camp this past weekend. While he didn’t win DL MVP, Williams’ speed off the edge was a nightmare for most of the offensive linemen that lined up across from him.
“There was a lot of competition out there (on the offensive line),” Williams said. “I did good, I should’ve won MVP, I know I was one of the three (finalists).”
Following that standout performance on Sunday, the Chaminade-Madonna pass-rusher talked about what went into making the switch over to the Canes.
“I always grew up a UM fan and I love the coaching staff,” Williams said, smiling ear to ear when talking about Miami. “I’m always hearing from Mark Richt, coach Kool (Craig Kuligowski), Manny Diaz, all of them.”
So, what was the vibe like when he finally pulled the trigger for the Hurricanes?
“I talked to Mark Richt directly, he was pumped! He was very excited, saying he can’t wait. He texts me like every day telling me he can’t wait for me to get on campus.”
While Williams is currently locked in with the Canes, he doesn’t rule out possibly taking visits in the future.
“I’m still thinking about taking visits because I’m still a junior, but right now I’m solid (with Miami),” said Williams.
Recruiting has been ramping up a bit for the 2019 class with the 2018 guys signed, sealed, and delivered, but Williams wants to focus on his final year of high school and bring home a state title to Chaminade-Madonna.
“I’m pumped (for my senior year). I know we’re gonna get back to states. I’m just pumped and can’t wait to get back.”
