2014 Booker T Washington CB Nigel Patten (5’9, 170) is not only one of the top football players in South Florida, but one of the best track athletes in the nation. He runs 10.7 in the 100 meters, 21.5 in the 200 meters, and 49.5 in the 400 meters. Patten has no shortage of interest in the hometown Hurricanes.
“Miami is one of my top interest schools right now, that’s my number one school right now. I would commit right now if they offered. I talked to Coach Michael Barrow and Al Golden at the camp. They wanted to see me in one-on-ones, but I had to go early,” Patten said.
Patten relies on his athleticism to make plays on the field.
“My man coverage and speed is what I’m best at,” he added
His teammates, Matthew Thomas and Denver Kirkland are two of the top prospects on Miami’s board.
“I don’t know about them. I know Miami is in their top 5, but I don’t know if they’re gonna stay here or go somewhere else. It will make a big difference for me where they go and Treon (Harris). Chad Thomas is another big Miami fan,” he said.
His goals for this year?
“I want to get at least 4 interceptions and I don’t want any balls caught on me.”
Patten plans on running track in college and says that he’s drawing interest from Alabama, LSU, Oregon, and FSU.
