Some thoughts on Kevin Olsen

The first thing that jumps out about Kevin Olsen's commitment is that he picked us. Sounds silly to say, but it is significant. This has not been a top 25 program in six years. Sanctions are looming coming off a 6-6 season. Olsen is a Top 10 quarterback with all of the resources to make an educated decision. He chose us.

Now let's talk about Olsen the player. His physical skill set is good, not great. At 6'3, 189 pounds, he has enough size but isn't huge. Olsen has a baby face, though, and you wonder how much development is still head of him. His brother Chris ended up at 6'3, 222 pounds, and Greg is 6'5, 255 pounds, so Kevin could end up as a well-sized quarterback when he physically matures.

Olsen's arm strength is

Keys to the Season: Roles and Role Players

One issue that goes largely unnoticed is the importance of roles and role players. I think I get why, we are young and have some depth issues along with issues centering around who we can count on. But i do distinguish role players, even if it is ever so slightly, from depth issues.

We need guys who can excel in their roles. We need guys who can specialize in pass rushing, long snapping, special team coverage guys, etc; We need guys who can specialize in jack of all trades though that may seem a bit odd to some of you. I have done some personal self discovery this year.

I am a teacher. What I lack in organization I make up for in flexibility. For the longest time I hated that my attention span was short and I wasnt

The common link among champions

As Miami gets further and further away from its glory days, a question dawned on me: What is the common thread among national champions? In other words, what is keeping Miami from the top?

One theory is that it's quarterback play. But AJ McCarron just won a title, and Matt Mauck and Greg McElroy have rings. Is it coaching? Coker disproves that theory by himself, and Gene Chizik and Les Miles were punchlines until they won it.

So what is the one thing that all college football champions had? It's defensive line. Let's look at the champions since Miami's last title and the talent they had up front (NFL draft round in parenthesis):

2001- William Joseph (1st),
